This week, one of our completed residential projects has featured as the opening story on Foxtel’s Australia’s Best Houses television programme. The article includes excerpts from an interview with Managing Director Justin Quinlan. Our combined lobby retail and cafe at the new Chris O’Brien Lifehouse launched last week with an official function attended by the Prime Minister. The 400 sq.m facility comprises formal and informal lounge areas, a cafe with community table and standard seating, a Campos coffee bar, outdoor seating, and the official Lifehouse merchandise retail outlet. All these disparate functions were designed around the movement of pedestrian traffic through the space, creating in essence, a space of flows. This fluid movement is reflected in the curved forms of the ceilings, serveries and banquette seating.

The Quinlan Group were responsible for all design, documentation, approvals, certification, costing, surveying and construction, again demonstrating that integrated architecture and construction can provide greater speed and economy whilst increasing design quality.

Without doubt, one of our best residential projects to date, this family home occupies a huge cliff top site overlooking the Narrabeen basin. It was originally conceived as a series of fingers which work around the existing trees and cascade down over the existing rock formations. Later, as the functional and pragmatic requirements came into play, the building has realised itself more as two arms which shield the inhabitants from the street and reach out towards the ocean beyond. These are the first pictures taken by the office after reaching practical completion – the final professional photos will follow shortly.

Principal Justin Quinlan has just returned from Milan, where The Quinlan Group was awarded 2nd prize in the residential category of the International Design Grand Prix. The Grand Prix is a bi-annual event run by Casalgrande Padana that recognises excellence in Architectural design globally and attracted more than 250 entries. The ceremony was attended by over 600 guests and the project is now being featured in Casabella magazine and on Italian television.

The second of our architecture and construction projects for the Compass Group was given the green light for construction this week. Occupying the majority of the lobby of the new RPA Chris O’Brien Life House building, this will be a landmark retail project for the company and further evidence of the success of integrated architecture and construction services..

This substantial apartment renovation in Point Piper involved the amalgamation of two existing apartments into a single residence. The interiors have been carefully designed to span aesthetically between the 60’s modernist bones of the existing building and the more ornate furniture of the clients and their extensive art collection. Features include purpose built sculpture display cases in the lobby and a hidden butler’s pantry.
